Estep and Exclusive Autosport Claim 2016 Championship in Dominant Fashion in Formula Tour 1600

Estep scores three poles, three flag-toflag wins at Circuit Mont-Tremblant Fall Classic on route to title.

Mont-Tremblant, Quebec – Exclusive Autosport’s Formula Tour 1600 season ended just as it began: with utter domination.

Trenton Estep of San Antonio, Texas, was the class of the field in this past weekend’s Fall Classic at Circuit Mont-Tremblant by being fastest in practice, earning pole in all three races while breaking the series track record with a qualifying lap of 1:44.354 – a mark previously set by another Exclusive Autosport driver, Tristan DeGrand, in 2014 – and winning all three races from flag to flag, each by margins of between 10 and 20 seconds to the second-place finisher.

In doing so, 16-year-old Estep simultaneously secured the 2016 Formula Tour 1600 championship and this year’s Rookie of the Year honours,  addingto the list of the season’s successes that began when he claimed the 2016 Formula 1600 Super Series title last month.

By capturing the 2016 Formula Tour 1600 championship, Estep was also awarded a ticket to the Mazda Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires Scholarship Shootout that will take place on December 6th and 7th at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Champions from around the world will compete for a $200,000 Mazda scholarship that will see the winner entered in the 2017 USF2000 championship.

“I couldn't really ask for anything better,” Estep said of the weekend. “To end out the season in this fashion is a true blessing. I’m optimistic to see what the future has in store.”

“Trenton finished the year off exactly the way he started, by sweeping three races in Tremblant,” added Exclusive Autosport team principal Michael Duncalfe. “He performed flawlessly all weekend and was the only driver to get into the 1:44s in every session. He did a fantastic job of showing the dominance of not only himself but also the Exclusive Autosport Spectrum package by winning 12 of 15 races and setting a series record for the most poles and wins by a single driver in a season.”

Also competing with the North American Spectrum factory team this weekend for the first time was 17-year-old Andre Castro of New York, New York. Castro missed Thursday’s test day as he took part in the Team USA Scholarship Shootout in Florida. However, when he arrived on Friday he quickly got up to speed, scoring a podium result in each of the weekend’s three races.

"The Exclusive Autosport guys gave me a car that could run up front easily, and it was just up to me to try to get up to speed as quickly as possible and extract what I could from the car," Castro said. "Overall, I was extremely pleased with the weekend at the beautiful Mont-Tremblant circuit."

“To have Andre arrive as a newcomer from Skip Barber with limited seat time and in every session get quicker and then walk away with three podiums was a strong first weekend in F1600 for him,” Duncalfe added. "Andre has a bright future in motorsports ahead of him!"

In Exclusive Autosport’s third Spectrum/Honda entry, Will Harvey of Edmond, Oklahoma, returned to the team to make his Canadian competition debut.

“Will did an incredible job this weekend,” Duncalfe said of Harvey's trio of top-five results. “It was his first time on radial tires, so it was a pretty substantial adjustment. Will displayed some of the best driving I have ever seen out of him. His on-track battles in all three races were exciting to watch with P2 to P5 being swapped every lap as drivers were going three to four wide down the straights.

“I believe Will showed how fierce a competitor he can be on track, and I am really proud to see him end the season so strong.”

With the Formula 1600 racing season in Canada now complete, Exclusive Autosport turns its attention to the upcoming debut of its USF2000 program. The team will join the rest of the series in turning its first laps in the brand new USF-17 chassis at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test to be held on October 8th and 9th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Stay tuned for Exclusive Autosport’s driver announcements and further information in the coming days.

Race 1: 1st / Race 2: 1st / Race 3: 1st

“I couldn't really ask for anything better. The Exclusive Autosport guys have been so good to me all season, giving me an unbelievable race car consistently. We had ups and downs over the course of the year, but we win and lose as ?a team and we end the year as 2016 Super Series and Quebec Formula Tour 1600 champions. To end out the season in this fashion is a true blessing. I’m optimistic to see what the future has in store.”

Will Harvey (No. 91 Marlin Oil Corporation/Oklahoma Heart Hospital/Cystic Fibrosis Foundation/Exclusive Autosport/Spectrum/Honda)

Race 1: 5th / Race 2: 4th / Race 3: 5th

“Running on a completely new tire added to the challenge of learning a new track in a new series. This left me in a bit of a hole for the races, but I now have a more defined set of goals to improve upon over the off-season.”

Andre Castro (No. 92 Exclusive Autosport/Spectrum/Honda)

Race 1: 3rd / Race 2: 2nd / Race 3: 3rd

“My first time racing the F1600 cars was an incredible experience. After only one practice session at full speed, my first time ever in the car, we managed to qualify 5th and move forward to finish 3rd on Saturday, and 2nd and 3rd on Sunday. The Exclusive Autosport guys gave me a car that could run up front easily, and it was just up to me to try to get up to speed as quickly as possible and extract what I could from the car. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the weekend at the
beautiful Mont-Tremblant circuit. I'm very grateful to Michael Duncalfe for the opportunity to be a part of the team, and I can't thank my teammates, Trenton and Will, and everybody on the crew enough for making my learning curve as smooth as possible.”
